Kitten Cuddle Challenge: Raise your paws for an awesome cause The Cat Protection Society of Victoria (CPSV) is calling on cat lovers across metro Melbourne to participate in its pawsitively purr-fect fundraiser - the Kitten Cuddle Challenge.
Individuals, workplaces and organisations can register their fundraising activities with CPSV throughout September for a chance to win a visit from a selection of kittens. Two winners will be selected based on the level of funds raised, and two will be selected based on the most heart-warming and unique fundraising efforts.
CPSV Marketing and Communications Manager Rachel Bitzilis said the opportunity allows participants to engage in a rewarding experience that not only supports a great cause but also brings a lot of joy.
"It's a chance for people to come together, enjoy some lighthearted competition, and make a real difference for cats in need,” Rachel said.
"Progress will be tracked on our dedicated webpage, and in early December four winners will be awarded with a visit from a litter of cute kittens and the CPSV team.“This will make for a purr-fect team bonding experience, or even give a family time with kittens so they can consider if this is the pet for them.
“We're thrilled to witness everyone’s enthusiasm for the prize and their creative fundraising efforts. Every donation truly makes a difference and supports our work in caring for and rehoming the abandoned, surrendered, and vulnerable kittens that will come into our care this kitten season.”
Participants are encouraged to share their creative fundraising efforts to inspire others and fundraising can take a multitude of forms – from a bake day, undertaking a dare, or holding a dress up day at the school or office.
In 2023, more than 50% of the cats adopted from CPSV were kittens aged six months and under. CPSV takes in kittens as young as one to two days old and cares for them until they are ready for adoption at 10 weeks of age.
Foster Care and Animal Behaviour Coordinator Chloe Harcourt at CPSV said that participating is a great way to support a worthy cause while also enjoying the remarkable benefits that come from simply spending time with a cat.
"Cats bring emotional comfort, helping to ease anxiety and lift your spirits with their companionship. The simple pleasure of cuddling cats and kittens can melt away stress by releasing oxytocin, the feel-good hormone linked to relaxation and happiness,” Chloe said.
"As well as the benefits for mental health and morale, petting a cat does physical wonders by triggering a natural feel-good response. The soothing presence of a cat not only improves sleep but also boosts your immune system and lowers blood pressure, all contributing to a healthier heart.
“We aim to raise the profile of cats as beloved companions, and the Kitten Cuddle Challenge is a wonderful way to get people excited about this mission."
Registrations are now open.
