Future Vet Kids Camp January 2021: Registrations Open!

Future Vet Kids Camp promises animal lovers a howling good time!

PetSure Scholarship applications are now open and will close on 30 November 20.

After a year of coping with the challenges of COVID19, animal loving kids can expect to have a howling good time during the upcoming school holidays at Future Vet Kids Camp, led by veterinarians Drs Audrey and Alison Shen from the Bondi Vet: Coast to Coast TV show and Aussie Mobile Vet

Designed and run by veterinarians, Future Vet Kids Camp is a veterinary-inspired school holiday program in Sydney that caters to kids aged 9 to 16 years and encourages responsible pet ownership, the profession of veterinary medicine and a love and appreciation of all animals and their habitats!

Dr Audrey said, “We wish we had a camp like this when we were young that opened our eyes to different careers in veterinary medicine. It showcases all the opportunities available as veterinarians and other wonderful professions in the animal industry. Many campers return every year to learn more and progress through the camp groups.”

Campers learn about different animal-related professions, genetic diseases, pet nutrition, exotic animals, surgery, animal rescue and wildlife conservation. Plus, they visit state-of-the- art veterinary hospitals for exclusive behind-the-scenes experiences, and many other exciting excursions!

Dr Alison is also excited about the outstanding presenters involved – from ultrasound, surgical and reptile expert talks to grooming, animal rehab, dog training demonstrations, wildlife talks and much more!

“The Junior Vets will learn how to work through real life cases, interpret blood work and imaging, and learn how to draw blood and observe real life surgery!” she said. “Campers will even get to meet a marine biologist who examines whale snot!”

During the year, the vet sisters have been heavily involved in the treatment and rehabilitation of wildlife injured by the 2019-2020 summer bushfires and hope to bring the campers some insight into what they have learnt in this area.

“Whether or not the kids end up following the path to a career in veterinary medicine, simply being around lots of different animals (from kittens to snakes) and animal lovers from across the country have such a positive impact on them,” said Dr Alison.

The Jan 2021 camp is anticipated to fill up just as fast as the last summer, so register now to avoid disappointment and tantrums!
