Socks the cat meets her LEGO® match!

LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre in Melbourne has cloned a cat!

A 5-year-old domestic shorthair tuxedo cat named Socks has met her LEGO® doppelganger at LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre!

Socks’ owner James Choi was the winner of the indoor LEGO play centre’s competition to give one lucky cat lover a life-size LEGO replica of their feline friend.

After launching the competition on International Cat Day in August 2020, LEGOLAND Discovery Centre’s Master Builder, Kieran Jiwa, received over 500 entries from cat parents all over Australia.

“Our ‘Build Your Cat’ competition proved to be just as popular as we thought it would be. Who wouldn’t want a LEGO model of their beloved cat? We declared Socks as the winner thanks to James’ story about how much she loves playing with his LEGO,” said Kieran.

Kieran spent over 40 hours designing and building the custom-made model, which comprises of approximately 2,300 LEGO pieces. The most challenging part of the construction process was making sure she looked as rotund as the real cat, without losing too much detail. Kieran had to order additional LEGO bricks as Socks, like so many others, stacked on a few COVID kilos.

“I think the LEGO replica is spot on although we haven’t been able to replicate Socks’ magnetic attraction to fresh laundry or her ability to snore like a bear. We introduced Socks to her LEGO double today and she was quite amused,” continued Kieran.

You can see Master Model Builder Kieran in action at LEGOLAND Discovery Centre from Friday – Tuesday and you can follow the adventures of Socks on her Instagram page @socksthecat_official.

Located at Chadstone Shopping Centre, LEGOLAND Discovery Centre is the ultimate indoor LEGO play centre. The fun-filled attraction is home to a LEGO model of Melbourne, various build and play zones, two rides, a 4D cinema, soft play zones, a LEGO retail store and much more!

The attraction is designed specifically for families with children aged 3-10. Adults must be accompanied by a child (except when visiting the retail store or attending Adult Night events).
